Happy Halloween !!!!!!!!

Asia do not celebrate Halloween. Unless you are a 'angmoh' - This is a very western kind of thing.
Nevertheless Halloween costumes, candies are being sold in our local supermarkets. There is not a big selection available but enough for my boys to amuse themselves while they follow me around the supermarket.

As usual it is only #3 alone in front of the camera. While the other 2 dress him up and fool around behind the camera.

Trick or treats.... the nearest we ever come close to are the games we play virtually. I guess virtual candies are in a way much better than the real ones.

So whether you are trick or treating virtually or really out there ...

Happy Halloween !!!!!

An Old Friend

As long back as I can recall I love to bake. Love the smell of freshly baked cakes or cookies. Always hang around my Mother whenever she does any baking. She and her Kenwood. The droning of the machine will go on and on especially during festive seasons.

I have always told myself that one day I will take over this machine of hers.

Well, I have. Here it is. In my kitchen. An old friend who had accompanied me through out my early days of baking. From simple to complicated cakes.

It is very old, comes with a porcelain bowl instead of a stainless steel one. It still works. Although it does not sound as smooth as before.

I sent it for repair before I brought it over. The beaters can't be attached. Got it fixed and found out that even though all the Kenwood looks the same. You can't interchange the K beater, whisks and hook. So, I have been warned not to lose them.

Today, I tried out the Kenwood for the first time since I brought it back. Baked a cake, left it in the oven. Cooked dinner and went over to my virtual kitchen. Came back to check on the cake and found that some one switched off the oven !!!.

Pounced on H as he was in the kitchen doing the dishes earlier. He thought I had forgotten to turn it off.

GRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........

Lucky for him that the cake turn out OK - so far . It is now cooling off. ( Me too )

Have to wait until I take it out of the tin.

Told him he will have to finish the cake if it is half baked !!!!

A Rainny Weekend

Last Saturday it was raining cats and dogs in the morning. This shot was taken while we were in the car. The rain was so heavy that we could hardly see the cars in front of us.It started to pour once we hit the highway.

Darn... wish I had woke up later ( woke up at 9am). I would have lazed around the house the whole day !
The sun was shining right on to my face, warming up the room. Told the boys we were going to make another trip to the Southern Ridges again. Intend to continue on the path where we last stopped.

" Oh ! No !!! "

" Too bad. "

Yeah, I am in the mood for morning walks.
In the end I did have my walk - around Vivo City, a big mall opposite Sentosa Island.

While wandering around the mall we came across a book fair - on board a ship; Doulos. Went on board and took the tour. Luckily by then the rain had stopped.
OK. This ship is mighty old - over 90 years old. Built in 1914, it had carried onions, immigrants, was once a cruise liner. Now a floating bookshop, travelling around the world. The book shop is built over where the swimming pool used to be.
Walking along the live boats - another old relic here. The side of this particular life boat
has dots on it where they are welded together. The rest of the life boats have smooth surfaces.

An ancient compass that is still working. The green and red knobs are magnets. It seems this compass is older than the ship; 100 years old ++.

The compass. They have another modern compass beside it.

The engine room which is super noisy and hot.
Oh ! Btw I forgot to mentioned that our guide was a girl from China. She has been on board for a year. She told us all the crew members are volunteers. The youngest crew is 2 weeks old. There are families on board too.

And lastly a shot of Sentosa Island - where the new Genting resort is being built. If I am not wrong this is where the ferry terminal on the island used to be.

Look What We Found ?

What is an evil looking axe doing in this post ?

Please excuse the bad picutres. I was using my mobile's camera. These pictures were taken when we were going through Father's belongings.

It is because the boys found a tightly closed tin in Ipoh. No matter how they shake it, use all their mighty strength, they can't open it. In the end roped in their father but to no avail.
This tin used to belong to Father. No one knows what was inside it. We were all mighty curious. It sounds like it contains some sand. I said it might be tea leaves that he had kept and forgotten all about it.
Or ashes - somebodies ashes ?????
Gory ???

Hence we bought out that evil looking axe. Before that H had used screw drivers to break the rubber seal that had harden and sealed the tin tight.

What did we find inside it ? All our guess were wrong.

A Camera ! Not any old camera but a Rolleiflex !!!

Father had told Mother that he had lost the camera long ago. So we were not expecting to find this. Before that we had found the camera's leather casing and external flash. We were wondering what to do with them earlier with out the camera.

Looks like he might had forgotten about it.

#1 was really fascinated by it. So Mother gave the camera to him - under my care until he is older.

I can't help wondering how to take care of the camera plus how much it is worth ?

$$$$$$ Yeah I am money mad. ($_$)

Anyone have any idea ?
