Scissors Cut Curry Rice

Whenever you mentioned curry rice to me, the first thing that comes to my mind is those curry from an Indian restaurant/ Nasi Kandar. Especially those back home around the clock tower in the old town section of Ipoh. Father use to brings us there for some good curry rice.
One weekend, H recommended a place for dinner.

Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice.

The first thing I notice was that it is not on Beach Road. This shop is located along Jalan Besar, right at the junction turning to Kitchener Road.

We had passed by this area a couple of times and we were really curious about it. There is always a queue snaking out of the shop every time we pass by. It takes up 2 coffee shop lots too.

Scissors Cut Curry Rice.

Are you curious ...........like me ?????

Aiyah it is just Hainanese curry rice.

We joined the queue, ordered the curry that comes with only the wings section (not my fav part of a chicken), belly pork cook in soy sauce with some five spice powder ( that taste so much like the pig ears that Father use to prepare). Btw the way the pork was all fats and minimum meat but then what do you expect when it is already a belly pork . FATs !
We also added some fried chicken chops and taugeh. They brought the food to our table. One look and I know I am in trouble. For me that is. They dumped a whole lot of curry (that part I don't mind) and another lot of those black sauce from the belly pork onto the rice too. YUCKS !!!!!

I don't mind the pork dish. Actually I quite like the sauce but not mixed with the curry !!!!

The Hainanese curry is non spicy but super sticky. They thicken their curry with some starch. The same goes with the belly pork too.

See the queue in the shop. Customers queuing all the while we were there. The stall is man by men who slap on the curry and side dishes you chose on to the plate of rice. Ours happen to be only the gravy as we ordered for a few heads. The dishes came in smaller plates. If you are ordering as an individual everything was dumped on to that plate of rice that in the end it looks like a mountain.

Personally I think they can improve on their presentation.
Why the scissors ?

The only reason why I think so is it is because they cut the chicken wings with a pair of scissors.

On that same evening we tried something else too. We saw this stall deep frying some dough while we were walking to that curry rice shop. It is just opposite it, but this stall happens to be facing Kitchener Road. Might be because we were supper hungry because they sure looks delicious. We bought some to try. Asked the lady what it was and she told us it is a Hokkien cake.
That's new. Not even my H who is a one had tried it before. Must be a different kind of Hokkein group.

Anyway here it is. It has oysters, prawns, meat, slivered fish (ngan yee chai), peanuts all mixed up in a dough and deep fried in a vat of oil. Not healthy at all but damn shiokalingam !!!!

Evening Walk

OK, this post is for someone who had mentioned that I have been too quiet for so long. The reason for my long absent here was....... what else....
I am just too lazy to post or do anything. But very hardworking in harvesting my plants in Farmtown. One of those virtual farm thingy in FaceBook .
Who to blame but that 3crazydogs. *_*

Other than being stuck to my computer we have been going for walks around our area.
Boring, right. That is why there has been no post !
But because of that comment I made myself download the pictures from my camera and make another mark here. Meant to do it much earlier just too plain lazy. Plus today's internet connection seems so bloody slow. I can hardly do anyting. What else to do but to blog lah .

More pictures taken at the Changi Boardwalk. This time we went in the evening before sunset. Not only that we started our walk from the Changi Beach Club. I manage to take some shots which I think looks OK to me. Malu to say I still have not master all those gadgets in my camera.
A couple having their wedding shoot .

Here the boys were all sweaty and exhausted after the walk. Or should I say we walk, they run and jump and climb.

ION

The latest shopping mall in Singapore - ION.
How do you pronounce it ?
"I On" or "E On" ?
The latter reminds me of EON - the company that sells Proton cars in Malaysia.
ION is situated at the junction of Orchard Road and Patterson Road. Built over the Orchard MRT station, opposite Tangs.

That corner of Orchard Rd is now connected underground. You can walk underground from Tangs, to Isetan, to Wheelock Place, to ION. With many shops especially in ION to make your walk real pleasant.

Go further underground and you will hit ION's food hall.

A sculpture here in the food hall to remind us to eat and eat or else we will look like that !

The upper floors. There are many branded outlets here. Outlets that will burn more than a bloody big hole in our wallet. You know those kind that will cost us 2 arms and 2 legs and still do not cover the bill. I think I can't even afford a button from one of those outlet. :(
Those in the basement are more to our standard.
The day we were there it happened to be a weekend. Hence the crowd was terrible. To tell you the truth I was more occupied in trying not to step on anyone than window shopping.

' Yan sang, yan hoi ! '

Peranakan Museum

In my last post I mentioned that the guys in my house went to the NDP's preview at Marina Bay and we (Mother, #1 and I ) went our separate ways. Well, we popped over to the Peranakan Museum which was a just a short walk away.

This is the Peranakan Museum along Armenian Street. It used to be the Tao Nan School. A beautiful building isn't ?

For those who are wondering what are Peranakans. They are descendants of people of mixed ethnic origins.

The galleries here are in themes - wedding, funeral, religion, food....er..I can't remember what else. We joined the tour and after it was over we made our way back to the wedding section to have another look at those beaded embroideries

The most impressive display here (for me )are the bead works. Such as those belows.

A huge table cloth made out of beads at the foyer of the museum. I took this picture from the upper floor. You won't miss it as it is so bloody big. The flowers, birds, insects are so alive. It is a marvel how they manage to do such a big piece.

Another beaded embroidery here. Puts my stitching to shame. Mother and I were really fascinated by them.

Another thing that caught my #1's attention.
A head dress worn by the bride. It is made up of 100 over gold pins stuck to the bride's hair !
Ouch !!!!!

NDP Preview

Yesterday (Friday afternoon) H and the 3 boys checked themselves into the Pan Pacific Hotel. H received a 3D2N free stay voucher from somewhere. We can't decide when to use it.

It so happen few days ago he was so lucky to get hold of the National Day Parade preview tickets. There were only 3 tickets. He brought #2 and #3 along for the NDP preview.
Taking that opportunity we used the free hotel stay vouchers. The parade was held near by the hotel beside the Singapore River.
Mother and I did not sleep over in the room with them as we don't think the room could squeeze in 6 of us. Plus I have a very comfortable bed here. No point getting kicked in the middle of the night by the boys.

The 3 boys were super excited to be staying over night there. Packed their games, snacks, etc....
This morning (Saturday) Mother and I met them for an early lunch at Marina Square. After that we walked around the mall and went our separate ways. H and the 2 younger boys went back to get ready for the parade. Not that there is much to prepare. They were already wearing the red Tshirts. I think they were just too lazy to walk around with me. Left them a camera and asked them to take some nice pictures for me to post up here. Which they did, as you can see from the following pictures.
The deluxe room they stayed in. They asked for an extra bed to make themselves more comfortable.

#3 playing in the bath tub before. :)

I did not take this picture OK ....I found it in the camera.

This picture reminds me of the times we used to play in the bathtub too whenever we stayed in a hotel with our parents.

They took many pictures during the preview.
There was this big ' eye ' right in the center of the stage.

The fireworks.

One of the lights and free goodies that came with the NDP bags. #3 hiding behind the light.

Those are the bags that were given out to all spectators at the preview and on the actual day too.

Mother, #1 and I met them back at the hotel. From the room we are not able to see the stage but right outside our room there was a window that has a real nice view of the Singapore Flyer. And a partially blocked view of the stage. We came out of the room to look at the fireworks. Even though we were a distance away we were able to see what was going on from the big screens and hear the music.
