Sneeze On A Friday, Sneeze For Sorrow

Aisay this sneezing thing is for real. Let me refresh your memory.

I sneezed on a Friday and the saying goes:-

Sneeze on a Friday, sneeze for sorrow

Sorrow it is !!!!

My computer is our of order !!!!!!!!!!
Out of my house too since the Dr had to take it with him to check it out.

See I did mentioned to H there was something wrong with it sometime ago. The symptoms just came slowly. Not all the time but just subtle indications that H said was nothing. Put it down to my impatience.

First it hangs when it was switched on. Or can't be switched on.
Then the computer restart it self while we were using it.
Next the Sonic Manager Update installer kept on popping up when ever we start the computer. It stays there and can't be removed. Just waiting to be installed. At first, we can still use the computer, blog as usual. All our my files are still there.
Lastly this Sonic Manager thingy effects the whole bloody thing. We can't shut off the computer unless we off the main switch. The computer hangs and it became as soon as we on it and can't be switched off. That was yesterday while I was scanning some pictures.

H had been trying all means to rectify it but to no avail. He thinks it might be a virus, bug or worm whatever.
And today H got the Dr to take it away. :(

I am now sharing the other computer with H and the boys. All lining up to use it. Which means I can't surf for long.

Isn't that sorrowful ?

You know the cantonese have a saying :- 'mai toong cheng'.
Which roughly translate to - trying to get some sympathy.

Sneezing

Good Morning !!

Nothing interesting, just to let you know I have been sneezing a couple of times since I woke up this morning. You know the kind that gets you in a sneezing fit.

I remembered this rhyme/poem (whatever it is known as) about sneezing. Google it and found it:-

If you sneeze on a Monday, you sneeze for danger;

Sneeze on a Tuesday, kiss a stranger;

Sneeze on a Wednesday, sneeze for a letter;

Sneeze on a Thursday, something better;

Sneeze on a Friday, sneeze for sorrow;

Sneeze on a Saturday, see your sweetheart tomorrow.

Sneeze on a Sunday, and the devil will have domination over you all week.

#################

One for sorrow

Two for joy

Three for a letter

Four for a boy.

Five for silver

Six for gold

Seven for a secret, never to be told

###########

And nope I am not coming down with a cold. So it sets me wondering.
Let's see today is Friday; it means there will be sorrow.
Eeeee.....I hope not.
Next, how many times did I sneeze ?
Did not bother to count.
Who does anyway ????

My Mother's Old Photos

The following are some pictures of my Mother. I don't think she will thank me for posting them here. :)
So please don't let the cat out of the bag. OK.

The reason why I am posting then because of what Sarina mentioned. These pictures are real classic. Even the way the subject post/stand. Now a days if we don't do that.

The above two and the one I had posted previously - I think they were taken at Mrs K home. Because of the piano and the statue of Christ on top of it. Plus the dress is the same. The year is 1957.
Even then she has style.

This picture taken with our aunt (on the right) with our aunt's friend in the middle. If I am not wrong it was taken by our Uncle (before he got married to our aunt ?) in Cameron Highlands. The date behind it states 1958.

The last two are younger pictures of her. 1954 - Looks like they go up the hill often.

Taken in 1953, Cameron Highlands. The building behind it is the hospital (as stated behind the picture).

Talking about this hospital it is above a hill at Tanah Rata. It over looks the town of Tanah Rata. It used to be the British military hospital. She was staying there at the staff quarters. She had a relative working there as an Ah Mah/attendant.

Mother told me she went up the Cameron with the military convoy. The cars were all bullet proof - covered with metal. In case of attacks by the Communist. Going up hill was extra winding as the roads were very narrow and nothing like now.

During the World War II the Japanese took over the hospital.

According to Father, he moved to Tanah Rata during the war, the Japanese soldiers here were much more friendlier than those down hill. They will at times offer sweets to the local children. But they were still very firece and the locals are much afraid of them.

The building is now a convent school.
This picture was taken in 1990 with our Aunt.

Remember don't let the cat our of the bag or I will be in hot soup !!!

Mother's Birthday

Mother,

I would just like to say

I Love you.

Happy Birthday

Today is my Mother's 69th birthday.

Sadly I did not get to see her or buy her a cake or anything.

Gave her a call and she was in a very cheerful mood. Most probably because my bro is with her.

It's A Girl !!!

Congratulations to our cousin T and his wife, They are blessed with a baby girl - Samantha; born on 18th September.
They had been trying real hard and their prayers had been answered. I am so glad and happy for them.
Now I have someone to give this card to. :)

My Boys

The following pictures taken today while we were out about in the neighbourhood mall. The boys were playing with my mobile phone camera.

They seldom update their blogs now. Play online games whenever they finish with their school work on the computer.

#1 - He is begining to look more and more like me. Hopefully not my temper.

#2 - Surprsingly he allowed his picture to be taken. Most probably because he was making monkey faces.
He just updated his blog about his coming psle.

Suck my blood !!!!

#3 there were no pictures because he was having his Chinese tuiton while the boys were fooling around with the phone. He updates his blog more often than the rest.

It Ain't Bloody

Ai say this is not a picture of me and H. But a Korean drama I am watching at the moment.

Stairway to Heaven.

It is now being aired on our local channel. A repeat, if I am not wrong - for the third time. Check out the synopsis for this drama at this koreandrama website.

Why am I watching it because I did not catch it when it was aired the first time. I was not in the K drama craze yet, then.
The second time it was aired on a weekend. Now weekends are usually the time we go out as a family. And if we don't go out I can't remember to watch it. So I only managed to catch a bit of here and there. Did not even start from the first few episodes. By the time I managed to remember catching it on TV the story began to be so sad that I gave up.
Like any romance drama the couple have many obstacles to pass through in their love life that every time I think it will ends well something will crop up. The story line/plot is not bad but in the end it was just so sad. Wish it did not had to end that way. Very melodramatic kind of movie, isn't it "?

OK now the reason why I am blogging about this is because of H.

Yes, H.

H that is in to all those horror, gory, slashing, severed body parts everywhere kind of movies. Know what I mean ?
...... is also following this drama too. For an hour five times a day, he will sits right next to me. If he is not around to catch it like this few weeks (he is on this alternating night and day shift/duty which ends tomorrow), he will tape it and watch it the very next day.

Don't know why he is hooked on it. I am surprised too. Usually he will scoff at me when I am watching, sniffing, holding back or wiping away the tears kind of romantic dramas. Not like there is any real bloody scene in this drama. The only bloody scene is when the girl got knocked down and that's it.

So, why is he faithfully watching this drama with me. Not that I mind him sitting next to me. I am just curious.

Lantern Festival In Chinatown

From the Singapore River (last post ) we walked to Chinatown. It is only a few blocks away but #1 kept asking me to take the train or at least the bus. Reads - "some air conditioning, please".

I told him not to be lazy. It was only a short walk and the evening was cool and not hot at all.

So he dragged his feet with me following him. You would expect him to be behind me. But nope, now a days he can walk faster than me. Might be because he is taller and younger than me. In this picture I was leaning on the wall. That is why I look shorter. In actual fact he is only a tiny whinny bit taller than me.

Does it explain why I still look shorter than him ? :(
Here is the beginning of the light up at Chinatown, with a lighted up Chang Er in the center of the street. Not a good picture here.
Further along the road , below the elevated garden.
A giant lantern further on.
The lighted up bridge.
By now I pity #1 and we rested here while waiting for H and the rest of the boys to turn up. #2 had to attend tuition class earlier. That was why they joined us later. The long queue to the multi story car park. H dropped the 2 boys here while he joined the queue. Mind you this was only a weekend before the actual festival.
#2 and #3, wearing T-shirts from KL's Chinatown. No wonder they have that 'blur' look - like aren't we in the wrong place ?

From here we wandered along the streets, taking in the sights. And once a while a whiff of sweaty odour assailed us. :) Lanterns adorning the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.
The Rats ! Must take a picture with their fellow species.
Now a days the lanterns are battery operated. Comes with your favourite cartoon or super hero character. In a way it is safer for the kids to run around with. Because you can't do that with a paper lantern and a lighted candle.

I can still remember my lantern burning up due to my lack of attention. Plus going snail hunting in the garden with our lanterns.

Those were the days..........

Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid Autumn Festivla is being celebrated today. Other than buying some moon cakes we didnot do anything else. No lanterns as the boys think it is not a cool thing to do. Anyway the weather is not good- cloudy with some slight rain in the evening. No sign of the moon at all.

The following pictures are taken last Saturday when we went to ChinaTown area to look see at the lanterns there.

This one here is the Singapore River. The building beside it is the Central Mall. There were lanterns floating along the river.

Just a few of the lanterns along the river.

From here we walked to Chinatown.

Hello ....

I have not been around as I thought the modem kaput-ed. Instead it was just a simple thing. So simple that H only need to touch it and it worked.

I think that **** thing is bias !

H said I have no patience.

I still think it is bias.

See, I have this love-hate relationship with it. Most of the time I love it when it works but once it goes haywire or start to show funny signs/symptoms I just hate it.

The last few days H was not around to administer his magic touch as he was on a morning and night duty for a couple of days. Hence no news from me.

Thinking about it it just shows how tech savvy I am. All I do is just type on my keyboard. All the dirty work is done by H. All the cleaning up is done by him. I had never bother with it because....what else - he is always around to do the dirty work for me.

Just like how he is always around whenever I go for seafood. He is always there to break the hard shell of the crab's claws. If he is not around I will never go near a crab.

Don't you think I am 'manja'/ spoilt ?

Anyway........... here is my last words for the day. Heard it on my fave radio station.

" Woman don't want to hear what you ( man ) say.
They want to hear what they say
But in a deeper voice. "

:0

Guilty.

And lastly

A picture of #2 and #3 sleeping in my bed at this very moment.
Ah...............

Once they are awake it is Grrrr......

Look What Flew In.......

I have no idea what it is.
#3 and I saw it on our dinning table this morning. We went near it and it did not fly away like what the other insects will do.

This is my first time I see this type of insect. At first I was wary of it, just in case it flies into my face or something like that.

Yeah, I am those who are afraid of all creepy crawlies and insects too. Even if it is a tiny one as that.

As I had mentioned it did not move at all. Even when I put a ruler near it. We thought it was dead but his antennae did make a slight movement. It was a very small movement and if we were not observing it that closely it would had been missed. I guess it must had been injured. Feeling confident that it is not going to make a sudden move, I took pictures of it using the macro mode in my camera. So that I can blog about it. :)

Actually I took quite a few shots and it still did not move. So we left it there and went around with our business.
The next thing we know it had moved onto the ruler we had left behind. Now ( I )feeling not that confident anymore don't know what to do.

#3 came to the rescue. Took the ruler and with it on it to the window. We intend to leave it outside the window on the ledge. But as soon as he was lowering the ruler it's wings flutter and it few away (lucky away from our window).

We still have no idea what type of insect was that ?

Do you ?

A Seafood Night

Monday was a busy day for us. We were out the whole day. We ended the day at the East Coast Park Seafood Center. H had promised us a meal - crabs for dinner. This time we went to ...

H's favourite seafood restaurant here. He had been patronising this outlet for ages. We even came here during our dates.
We chose a seat as near to the beach as possible. It was a quiet evening. Not much crowd. Most probably it was a Monday. There were joggers jogging on the pavement beside the beach. Did we feel guilty gorging on our food - Nope !!! :)
After we had place our order the boys went exploring along the beach. This is the only shot of #2 I managed to catch. He is very anti-pictures taking at the moment.

Meanwhile #1 was trying to climb up those totems. He did not manage to do it the last time.
So he was mighty proud of himself when he managed to reach the highest one.
Waiting for their dinner.......
Making monkey faces again.
So I turn my camera to something better - our two plates of crabs.

Chili crabs.
And Black Peppered Crab.
We ordered something else for our non eating crab/seafood son of ours.

After that meal we walked along the beach - to walk it off. With he boys running a head of us. So, for a moment it do seems as if we were out on a date.

Another Day Out In Town

Sunday we were in town and the next day too. This time I went to settle their travel documents.
Wrong day to come as it was packed with many people. But this was the only day that we are all free. The older boys had to return to school for extra lessons the next few days even though the week long holiday had just started. We have to make another trip this Saturday for the collection of the passports. And most probably face the same crowd again.

Once we have finished with all the paper work we took a bus ride and stopped at another mall - Bugis Junction for lunch. It was raining cats and dogs by then. Sure glad we managed to reach here before it pours.

After lunch we jalan-jalan around the mall. Window shopping. As usual the boys can't last long, so we went over to Starbucks. Can't even walk over to the National Library because of the rain.

"At last we can rest our legs !"

Yeah, I am training you guys when you need to go shopping for your girl friends. :) Fooling around. Lately #2 is not keen to have his pictures taken. As you can see from the other picture he always turn away or hide his face.

H joined us later on. You see he was not with us earlier as he had to hand over his duty from last night. Then he and his colleagues were given a treat by their department to watch the movie/documentary - mad-about-english.

Now you know why we are hanging around town.

Waiting for him because he promised us a meal later on (next post).

Btw while I was typing away just now he came over to take a look and saw this picture here.

He said - " the older I get the better looking I look, right ? "

Pulzee..........

Told him it is lucky I was not eating a slice of moon cake at the moment or I will sure to get choked on it !!!

A Weekend Of Mooncakes

Sunday, H was on duty. So I was left at home with the boys. We went to Orchard Rd. To the annual Mid Autumn Festival at the basement of Takashimaya. There were many stalls offering moon cakes and more moon cakes. This picture was taken in the late morning. By afternoon it was packed with shoppers.
#1 observing how the moon cakes are formed. The baker was making those snow skins moon cakes.
Those are the ones I bought. The one on the left is in a traditional box that comes with a traditional paper bag. It is from Tai Chong Kok an old bakery from Chinatown that specialise in traditional cakes.
The other box on the right is from Shangri-La Hotel.
Now the actual festival is on the 14th of this month (Sunday) but we can't wait till then to try them. So here they are;

Red bean paste moon cakes from Tai Chong Kok . Favourite with H, #2 and #3.
White Lotus paste from Shangri-La Hotel. #1's favourite.
What is mine ???
I bought another box of moon cakes - durian moon cakes.

Mini snow skin moon cakes filled with durian paste. Yummy !!!! I think I will go for another round of this - nearer to the festival because #1 and I are fighting over them. Lucky it is only #1. :)

There are many other varieties of moon cakes out there but I stuck with the traditional ones because they do not come cheap. It is safer to get the ones they will like or else they will be wasted. There are fanciful ones such as Rum and Raisin, Champagne Truffle, Bloody Mary snow skin with custard paste, Bird's Nest moon cakes or Peanut Butter Cheese moon cakes.

So many but so little stomach and wallet space.
