Photo Hunt - Pink

I saw that the theme for Photo Hunt this week is pink from twocrazydogs site. Now I am not registered or anything with this Photo Hunt thingy. After visiting her site I remembered I saw this pink piggy at the Hogs Breath Cafe. I just want to share this picture with you all. I posted this picture in my other blog before.
Piggy's always reminds me of my Sis twocrazydogs.
Hahahaaaa......

Orchard Road With Mother

Today, I went to the Orchard Rd with Mother and #1. The rest did not want to go out. #2 and #3 wanted to glue themselves to the computer.
We left after breakfast, walked and window shop along Orchard Rd. There are many new changes there that was not around eight months ago. That is how long since they last visited us. Every visit Mother will stroll along Orchard Rd.

Mother carrying a tray of food at the Food Court in Wisma Atria. This place is at the 4th floor and we manage to get seats overlooking Orchard Rd and Tangs Departmental Store. By the way she was carrying a bowl of laksa and lobak. Singapore Laksa is a must for her every visit to Singapore.

The name of this food court is - Food Republic. It serves hawker fares and mini dining restaurants.

After our meal we continued our expedition along the shopping belt. Then we settled Mother's things and by then we were dying for coffee. Ended up at Tcc again.

The menu and a hunk gracing the coaster.

I tried the Coffee with Orange and Mother had the C52. Hers is the one in the small glass. At first sip it kicks you with it's alcohol content. It is made up of Bailey's Irish Cream, brandy and coffee. Nice.

We relax on our comfy seats and admired Mother's hands. So comfortable that she began to feel sleepy, partly due to the drink.

Dear Sis, notice any difference here ? :)

#2 's Birth-day

Today is my #2's eleventh birthday.
Eleven years ago he was a toothless, cute, chubby and adorable baby. A real easy baby to care for.

On this day, eleven years ago I was unable to sleep that night. Instead of disturbing H by turning left and right on the bed. I went to the hall to watch TV. Can't remember what I was watching because I just can't pay attention to it. So I decided to read.

My parents just came that evening from Ipoh to help me cope after the baby's arrival. They had planned to be here by earlier a week to enjoy themselves before the baby arrive. But I guess #2 had his own plans.

So, there I was reading on the sofa in the middle of the night and all of the sudden there was a sharp pain in my tummy. I stood up and there was a gush of water from between my legs. I knew my water bag broke. I still can remember that this was in my mind then; "It is not suppose to be due yet. It is suppose to be next week !" .

Quickly went to H, called him and he was dead to the world. So instead I went to my parents room woke Mother up. Told her what happen. Went back to my room and gave a big shake to H. This time he woke up. While explaining to him what had happened I was stripping and jumped into the shower.

Why did I do that ? H jumped out of the bed, got dressed in no time and I was still in the shower. Mother was urging me to hurry and I was taking my own sweet time. I remember that I do not want to go to the hospital before taking a bath. Something like you always brush your teeth properly before visiting the dentist, kind of thing. Plus I want to wash all those amino fluid from my legs before I got dress.

Luckily I already got everything packed - the bag I need to bring to the hospital with me. On the way out of the house, gave some instructions to my Mother. Things like how much milk to make for #1, what time he will usually wake up. Here Mother was shooing me out of the house and H hurrying me, I was still rambling away about #1.

Was I calm ? Yeah, I would like to think I was. There was no further contractions or pain. Just worried about #1.

By the time the car just hit the highway the pain start to come in double quick time. The contractions were getting stronger and getting more frequent. Something like every five minutes or maybe shorter.

SHIT ! I knew I was going from the first stage of birth to the last stage real quick. I can feel the baby's head pushing at my vagina.

I was not calm by then. I was tearing, shouted at H to drive bloody faster unless he wants the baby born in the car. I can remember he said something like he was driving as fast as he can. I was hitting his shoulders while resting my head on the back of his head rest ( I was sitting at the back of the car). Definitely not clam. More like near panic !

You know the midwifes always tells you to push at the last stage of labour. I was trying very, very, very hard not to push. I do not want to deliver the baby in the car. The journey to the hospital seems to take forever. Instead H told me (after the storm had settled) it only took about 25 minutes or so.

By the time we reach the Kandang Kerbau Hospital which seems to be like forever, the attendant got me on the wheel chair. I told them my condition and was wheeled to the labour room pronto. At this moment I can't remember exactly where and what was H doing. Everything seems like a blurry scene to me.

But I remember getting on to the bed in the labour room, the nurses helped me to remove my pants, opened my legs and the next thing I know #2 was out. He just slided out without me pushing, right into the nurses hands.

It was 2.56 am. A 4.125 g, vernix cover, crying baby was born. The nurses cleared his airway and in no time he was squalling at the top of his lungs. I figure he is not happy to be out of his warm cocoon. He was wrapped in a blue towel and handed over to me for my first look at him.

I remembered feeling kind of disappointed that H was not around to see his birth as he had for #1. That was when I suddenly became aware that H was not around. It is sort of like a split second thing that those two thoughts were in my mind. Enquired the nurses where he was and I was told that he was still at the admin with the paper work. I asked the nurses to convey to him that he has another son.

The nurses clean me up, by then I was feeling sleepy. I still need to wait for my tear to be stitched up. Here onwards it became blurry again. I knew I was pushed to the ward with my baby, got on to the bed and slept. Next thing I knew H was next to me.

And I told him "You gave me another son again !" .

Yeah, I was hopping that it will be a girl this time round. I did not asked the technician during the routine ultrasound. I wanted it to be kind of like a surprise. And a surprise it was too especially his arrival.

Eleven years after all the night feeds, sore nipples, toilet training and exam stress. Don't forget the scare and panic he gave all of us. Here is he :-

The birthday boy with his grandparents who did not manage to enjoy Orchard Road as they had wanted to before he was born.

See the big plate of fried noodles. Gong Gong asked what the birthday boy wanted to eat for his birthday and he said he wanted fried noodles. And so he had his fried noodles for dinner tonight. Prepared by his Gong Gong.

And $20 from Poh Poh. No wonder he is all smiles. I bet he is thinking how to use it. Most probably dreaming about it too.

OK, before you blast me why I only got him a doughnut as a birthday cake.

  • Chocolate doughnut is his favourite.
  • I just made a chocolate cake the other day and all of us (the adults) don't feel like eating any more cake. (reads as expanding waist line and butt).

Told his brothers no one can eat his cake this time round, gleefully.

Happy Birthday, my son. I love you.

Rain, Rain, Rain......

Here is how the weather is like in Singapore :-

Today
Scattered Thunderstorms

Tomorrow
Scattered Thunderstorms

For the whole week it had been the same.

How I wish the rain will go away. Perferably to California. They really need the rain.

My Parents Visit

My parents are here for a short visit. They will be leaving for home next Thursday. In time to prepare for my sis's coming visit.

My boys had been looking forward to their visit since the day they knew about the visit.
Reason being their Grandparents will take over some of their chores. Father will be preparing the boys favourite food all the time. Not to mention he is like a walking candy dispenser to the boys.

The evening they arrived they went to the Singapore Exchange website straight away .

See, they are so engross with it. (Excuse the mess on the table)
Both of them are not computer savvy at all but Father knows how to go from page to page on this website.

Cake Decorators

I baked a fruit-cake for my parents visit. The boys were not keen at it at all. So I brought out all the bake utensils again and baked another cake for them. This one they love. A mocha-fudge-cake. So much so that the older boys attacked the cake before they left for school in the morning.

Yes, they pinched the side and corners.

But I had other plans for it. Make a topping for the cake and #3 helped me to decorate it.

Plus clean/licked up the remaining topping.

I decorated half the cake with walnuts and he with the coloured sprinkles.

Not a bad job eh ? This is the first time I manage to present such a well decorated cake.

Wondering why I am still awake at this hour.

  1. Baked a cake earlier to welcome Mother
  2. I was cleaning, tidying the house, ironing the mountain of clothes before Mother faint from the sight she will see here. :)
  3. Clean up her vase.
  4. H is not around to lullaby me to sleep. Reads - no one for me to ' ngam ' at. No one taking up all the space in the bed, for me to kick at.
  5. Since I can't sleep I went nosing at other blogs/sites.

And now I am going to Zzz...................

See you all around.

Counting The Days

My Sister is not the only one counting the days. In her case, she is counting the days to her trip over the great pond.

For me I am counting the days for another reason.

My Mother is coming for a visit today. She will be arriving this evening.

Two more days to the two younger boys exams are over.

Three weeks and three days to the long school holidays. And my Sis's visit.

Four weeks to #1's PLSE results.

Five weeks to my own trip back to Ipoh.

Eight weeks to #1's Secondary school posting results.

Ten weeks to the new school term.

Any more ?

The list goes on and on but that is the major events for this year.

Possessed Appliances

The things in my flat are being possessed.

Really.

One by one, the things are going hay wired, dead or just not behaving the way they should.
It started once after we reached the 12 years mark. That is how long we had been staying in this flat. Most of the electrical appliances had already been changed after it reach 5 years old or more.
But this year, there are exceptionally more appliances misbehaving than before.
These are the items that had misbehaved this year alone :- TV, deep fryer, DVD player, water heaters in both the bathrooms, blender, computer, computer monitor, toilet cistern. All those items have been replaced.

That list do not include the faulty things that had been repaired. Such as the washing machine, the leaking walls (btw it is still leaking but not as bad as before),......Er.....I can't think of anymore. Looks like we replaced more than we sent for repair. Thank goodness the stock market is doing well or we won't be able to replace most of those items.

Adding to that first list now is the video recorder. H have not got a new one yet because he is not free these few days.

He thinks, or I should say, he is going to try to fix it.
Yup, H is the Mr Fix-it in this house. Our handyman. He is no expert. But whenever anything goes wrong he will try to fix it first before he sent it to the ' ER ' or sent for the ' Doctor '.
Plus now a days it is not worth the money to get a thing fixed. We need to haul the faulty appliance to the ' ER ' and for some items it is not a easy job.
A home visit by the ' Doctor ' will easily cost us $50-$60. That is just his consultation fee. It does not include the work/repair or any change of parts. Usually it cost a bomb just to replace certain parts.

So, we end up buying a new appliance instead. Much cheaper than having it repaired.

Two weeks ago, H just changed the toilet cistern in our bathroom. It had been giving us trouble for some time now but he did something and it was working fine until then. I guess it was it's way of telling us, it had enough. No more repairs. Give me a break.

So H did but he wanted to see if he can do it first. Save on the plumber's fees. Took it apart. Came out of the bathroom and said he is going to give it a try. Changed his clothes and went to the DIY store. Thank goodness he managed to change it. Not with out lots of ******* !

Then last week, the water heater in our bathroom conk out. That heater was only about a year old. H went round looking for the problem.

Opened the heater up and he spotted the problem. The thing his finger is pointing to is burnt. Sorry, I can't remember what it is known as. He did mentioned it to me but it had slipped from my mind. :)

So, here is my handyman repairing the water heater.

Hmmm... you must be thinking I am so brave to go near him with a camera.

Well, he did asked me to come and see the burnt part. I just came along with the camera . Snapped the last picture from the doorway - away from him and his tools which are all over the bathroom floor. I am not that brave.

So, what do you think ? Are the things in my flat being possessed ?

My Saturday In Chinatown

Woke up to a grey sky which stared to rain once we reached Chinatown.

This morning we went to Chinatown for Dim sum. We did not go to those fancy restaurant. Just a simple restaurant that serves simple Dim sum with the typical Chinese service (boh chap type of service). The fancy restaurant we wanted to go to only opens late for business - 1130am. We were there at 9am.

After the breakfast #1 and I went for a walk around Chinatown. H and the rest of the boys went home for their revisions - exams coming this Monday. Luckily by then the sky had cleared, although it was still grey. Just nice for our walk. By then most of the stores were opened.

Both of us took loads of pictures until the battery went flat.
We went to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, visited the flea market, mingled with the tourist.
So here are some random pictures taken this morning.

A row of trishaws.

#1 checking out the flea market. Because of the rain earlier, the vendors only stared to lay out their wares.

Vendors setting up their store. You will notice that there are mainly senior citizens in Chinatown.

The famous Lim Chee Guan outlet. Famous for it's BBQ meat. During Chinese New Year the queue here is always miles long.

Lastly I spotted this - A picture of Prince Charles. A very young looking Prince Charles. So, if you are a fan of this guy hurry down to Chinatown's flea market. This market is only open during the weekends.

When we finished with Chinatown we walked all the way to Clarke Quay. By then the sun was blazing hot. Took some more pictures here which I will post later. Mean while enjoy the rest of the pictures I took in Chinatown.

Have a nice weekend

Questions For The Day

It had been bloody hot the last few days. I wished it would rain. And it did today. As soon as the load of washing was ready. It rained and rained. Only at this part of Singapore. And how do I know that, because I was chatting with my friend on the phone. She is in the south of the island. It was shinning brightly over there.
One would wonder that Singapore is such a small island, how come it only rains at certain part of the island ?

Next while it was pouring outside. I was watching Ugly Betty, a re-run of the first season while sorting out the threads for my next cross stitch project. Multi tasking. I was not really watching it, more like listening.
The next thing I know, #1 asked me, " What is so wrong with 'sleeping together' ?" "What do they mean when they use the phrase 'sleeping together' ?"
I looked up at the TV and here was Daniel and Grace Chin making out at the restaurant. Willamina was watching the recorded tape of them.

How do I answer that ? Yeah, I know you are dying to see how I answer this.

I told him it means having sex.

"Does it mean you and Papa sleeps together are having sex all the time ?

"No. It depends on how you use that phrase. " Gave him some examples.

"OK"

Next I told him not to mention this 'sleeping together' thingy to #3. Because I don't want #3 to blurt it out at the most inappropriate time. Like in the train or bus. And he does have a very loud voice.

"OK"

More Questions

Our weekend drink for tonight - Spendrups Old Gold. A Swedish beer which I got from Ikea today.
Serve it to H and he asked

"How come your breast is bigger ?"

Excuse me, they have been the same. No change in size. I should know since my VS bras size had not change for a couple of years.

He had not been paying attention to me. To my bust that is.

What does that tells you. We are just like any typical couple that had been married for too long. Taking each other for granted. Or we had been groping at each other too much in the dark.

You know, we women always asked questions that always stump our partner. Such as "Am I fat ?" 'Did I put on weight ?" No matter what their answer might be they are in trouble.

H will always give me this answer that "I look the same since the first day he met me"

GRrrrrr........

That shows he is not paying attention. Which brings us back to the first question. In fact my boobs had sagged and they are definitely not the same as then. The same goes with my waist line too.

"Real or a bra ?" - reads, am I wearing a killer bra with padding and all.

Come and check it out yourself. :)

Er..... are you drunk ? I don't think so. It is only a bottle of beer with only a alcohol content of 5.0 vol%. But then he has a very low tolerant of alcohol. Maybe he is. :)

Let me see......

Yup, he is zonked out in front of the TV. Seems like the sexy girls in Survivor China did not turn him on.

OK I will end here and I think I will go wake H up to start my weekend.

Meanwhile here is a picture of me with what I am wearing now.

I will leave it for you to decide.

Fantasia

Have you ever put on some music to listen and it reminds you of something else ?

Well I had this on while I was posting my blogs.

My boys suddenly heard it and told me it is from a scene from the Disney's Fantasia 2000.

And since I don't have anything more to write I decided to search the YouTube with them and found this clip.

This piece is from the 'Carnival of the Animals' - finale . It is by Sain Saens.

Enjoy.

I alwyas like the both Fantasias. The music goes so well with the animation. Don't you think so ? The other piece I like is the 'Rhapsody in Blue' depicting New York City.

Random Pictures

These pictures were taken by #1, during our day out yesterday.

Guess what is this last picture suppose to be ? When I down loaded the pictures I can't figure out what it was.

A Day Out With Friends

My Boys are having a wonderful week ahead. They have a week of 'no school' due to the PLSE marking. A week for the teachers to mark the PLSE papers.
Yeah ! From them
Groan ! From me.

But yesterday went well. I took the boys to the City, Orchard Road. Met Carol for lunch at Breeks, Takashimaya. She has a week off and she will be going back to Ipoh on Wednesday. They will be driving back. A long break for her and her hubby. A trip that she is looking forward to.

Here is she with the children. This was taken at the Lego store.

#3 and his new found friend (Carol's boy).
We walked around Takashimaya. Can't really say it was window shopping. More like children watching. The boys had fun. The only rose among the thorns were still too young to join in.
Soon it was time for us to make a move to Toa Payoh (another neighbour). Made an appointment with another old school friend of ours.

Yup, CL was down here for a short visit. She came with her family. Stayed at her brother's place.
By the time we reached Toa Payoh it was raining cats and dogs. We don't feel like navigating along the narrow covered walkways. Because of the rain it was especially crowded. So, we ended up at the nearest cafe, Delifrance. As usual we chat none stopped, catching up with each other. The children, by now the number had increase to seven boys and still one girl. The noise they made ! Luckily we were not thrown out by the management.
And............ after nearly a year into this blogging business, I have decided to
Post my picture here.

My Weekend Empathising

Today, I woke up at 8 am when the alarm went off. I must had switched it off and went back to sleep. Because the next thing I knew was H giving me a good wake up shake (no dirty thoughts here, OK). It was 9.am, The sun was shining brightly right on to my bed (butt) and I am going to be late.

I am suppose to meet my friend for coffee at 10am !

Jumped straight out of bed and got grabbed by H. (I will leave it to your imagination).
By the time I got ready it was 9.30 am. Rushed through my toiletries, grabbed blindly at my clothes, it did not match, grabbed another one, slap on some lipstick and left the room.

#1 saw me dressed up and asked to follow me out. Why not, I thought. In time he won't want to go out with me at all. So, I had to wait for him to change his clothes. I did warn him I am only going to meet my girlfriends. But he wanted to come along. OK....

By the time I reach my destination I was late for a couple of minutes. My friend, Carol was already there. Went into Starbucks and we talked non stop for nearly two hours.
Yakking away even when we were ordering our coffee. Bloody embarrassed when the cashier had to asked us to pay up. Planted ourselves on those nice comfy seats and continued yakking away. In between my boy went roaming the mall came back and commented that we are still yakking away !

You see, I have not been in contact with this friend of mine for some time. She is a working mom with two active toddlers. At the end of the work day she is usually flat out. I can empathise with her because I was just like her a couple of years ago.

I will leave the house at 6.30 am. H will drive us to my work place and then to his. I will leave the boys at the child care at my workplace, walk about 10 minutes to my building, mind you a brisk walk too. Have a quick breakfast and start work. Leave at 5.30pm ,if there is no overtime ( which is not paid ) walk back to the main building where the child care is. Picked the boys up and wait for H to pick us up which is around 6.30 pm. By the time I reach home I am all flat out. But there is still dinner to be fixed (if we don't eat out), house work to be done, clothes to be ironed. Paying attention to the never ending attention seeking toddlers on top of that.

#1 commented once that he do not see the sun at all. Leave the house when it was dark and come home when the had sun set.

Every morning I will snooze on the ride to and fro from work. My ex-colleague once commented that she saw me snoozing away in the traffic jam. She was in the next lane to our car.

So, I can empathise with what Carol is feeling now. She has a heavier work load now than I did then. She is now a Educator with 80 new foreign recruits to train plus lectures to give and keep up with the previous foreign and local recruits under her. She is super stressed.

So stressed that she had a heart problem that got her hospitalize for a couple of days. All the while she was CRIB(complete rest in bed) she still worrying about her DEADLINES. Once discharge, did not even take any medical leave because of the deadline. That was last year.

Until now, she still feel the skipped beat in heart and going around with 'panda eyes'. The doctor said she most probably had this minor congenital defect since birth which did not cause her any problem. But because of the added stress from work it flare up and became worst. On top of the work stress she still have to take care of her family, plus having maid problems. She did not have it easy at all.

Today I manage to get hold of her and asked her out for a couple of hour just to catch up with each other in person. This had been a long time since I met her in person. Usually either one of us will call each other up and chat on the phone. Which is not often since she is usually so tired at the end of the week.

She talked about her work. All the while she was talking about her stress at work, I was thinking I was just like her a couple of years ago. I am real glad I left the grind stone to be a home maker.
Yup, our fiances did have a big beating since I stopped contributing to it. But I am happy with my life now. I have no regrets. Although at time I will ponder and wish and whine for things that will never happen now. At the end of the day I am HAPPY. Even though I may whined that my boys are stressing me out(usually during exams period). I have no regrets with the decision I had made all those years ago.

Or I may have dull those feelings with this :-

Yup, this is just right next to me now. H is zonked out in front of the TV as usual.

Seriously, even with out the influence of the wine I am happy with my life. With all the ups and downs, the checkbook and the boys exams.

I am satisfied with what I have.

OK. Back to this morning, Nelly (another friend of ours) met us later on. Continued yakking away, boring the hell out of my #1, who had by then went on another tour of the mall and bought some game cards and found us still yakking away. (I did warn him earlier ).

Soon Carol had to leave - duty calls. Nelly and I, plus #1 walked to her condo. There we browse through Victoria Secrets website. Make us wish we still had all those sweet young things figures.

This friend of mine, Nelly have two girls, my #1 grimaced. Gave me a real pain look when I told him that. But you know what, he played hide and seek with them the whole time Nelly and I was browsing the through the Victoria Secrets website. The girls showed off their piano skills and he showed them his cards and Game boy. Real disappointed when we had to leave. Just before, he was grimacing that it was girls.

What is it about this boys and girls thingy ?

Chossing A Secondary School

Back in those good old days, education is so easy. No stress for the parents or kids. Even if you did not do well in your last year in Primary 6, you can still go to the school of your choice with out sweat. In Singapore it is different.

For those who do not know, my #1 finished his psle recently. He is now very happy that it is
over with. Playing with his Lego's everyday. They are allowed to play card games in class, computer games.
Results will be out tentatively on the 22nd Nov and then the selection of schools start.

Today he came home with a copy of this :-

Part One was given out before the exams. There were 36 pages. In four languages. With all the tentative dates.

Part Two comes with 343 pages. 20 pages of the School Achievement Tables and Honour Rolls. See below.

And the rest are information on all the secondary schools.

Information from address, bus, train services. The school vision and mission. Subjects, CCAs and sports offered. Last year's and previous achievements.

The most important of all is the aggregate range of last years PSLE pupils posted to 2007 secondary school. The range for Express, Normal and Technical.

This will be the guide line for parents when it comes to choosing the secondary schools once the results are out.

I have tag the schools I hope he will be illegible for. Mostly from around our area or the next neighbourhood.

But for now, I don't want to think about it anymore until later.

The Expat Meme

I popped over to Barbara's family-counts. site and I saw this interesting meme.

Hmm...... something I can do. A chance to talk about myself. :)

The Expat Meme

1) What is the best thing that you have been told by a native of the country where you live ?

I look and speak English like a Singaporean. They are usually surprise when I say I am a Malaysian instead.
That is until I speak (try to) in Mandarin. That is when they will usually know where I am from. They say we Malaysian Chinese speaks Mandarin with a "sing song " voice. Whatever that is, I can't differentiate it. They sounds the same to me.

Speaking Mandarin is a big feat for me. Since I am educated in Malay, in a convent (CHIJ, Ipoh), with only an English subject - English Language. Luckily our teachers back then were still from the 'colonial days'. They will read the text in Malay and explain the workings in English. Both my parents are English educated. Maybe that explains why my sibblings and I are so comfortable in English.

Plus I am from Ipoh, Cantonese is the dominant dialect. The only Mandarin I ever came close to were the 70's Taiwan, romance movies which Mother will bring me along to watch. You know those Chin Han and Lin Fong Qiao era. But then both of us manage to understand/sniff through the movies with the English subtitles.

I only learn to speak Mandarin when I came here. By then there is an other Chinese dialect for me to master - Hokkien. A complete, foreign sounding dialect !

After coming to nearly 20 years here, I speak a passable Mandarin, understand Hokkien but can't converse well in it. Knows the difference between the Teowchew and Hokkien dialect.
Most probably due to the fact that Singapore uses English as a working medium.

2) How do you generally get along with the people in your neighborhood ?

Like I had mentioned earlier, everyone thinks I am a local. Until I speak in dialects or Malay. I stay in a quiet neighbourhood, where everyone minds their own business. Which is generally the case in Singapore.

3) How “in” or “out” do you feel when it comes to the Malaysian politics

Using Barbara's words "I’am out... and really" light years" away". Even though Malaysia is just next door. Believe it or not I had never registered for the elections. By the time I was old enough to place my name I was not in Malaysia by then.

4) How would you promote your second country to someone who wants to travel and may stop over?

Singapore is a safe and clean city. Not much country side to explore but who cares when one can enjoy the best Chicken Rice in the world. By the way that is the most popular food among the locals here. :) Since Singapore is such a small island, going from one end to another in search of good food is a piece of cake.
The highways here are usually smooth sailing. Of course there are jams during the peaks hours but nothing horrendous like those in Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok.

After stuffing ourselves no more there are the shopping. And when you are tired you can rest your aching feet in many of the cafes that dots the malls or shopping belt.

Want to soak up some sun, Sentosa Island is the place to go to. With the second casino coming up there, great place to unwind once the sun set.

The Singapore Zoo. One of my favourite venue. The animals are kept in a as close as their natural habitat as possible. They do not look miserable or skinny like the other zoos I have been to. Lots of greenery's and there are air conditioned shelters when the heat gets too much for you. Or if there is an escape jaguar.

Wow ! I sounds like the Tourism Board. Any commission, I wonder ?

5) Could you change your nationality or be a dual citizen ?

Nah, I am proud to be a Malaysian. Anyway Malaysia and my adopted country do not permit dual citizenship. So every couple of years I will renew my Permanent Residence status. The medical rates for PR's have increase. They use to be the same as the residents. I guess it is the way the government telling us we can't have 'one foot in two boats'. I do not get certain monetary benefits dished out my the government. All these does not make me scurrying to join the citizen application queue.

That's it. I am not going to tag anyone. Feel free to do this. Just cut & paste the questions and answer them.

Plaza Singapura - Hightlight Of The Week

H is not home, today. Took the two older boys for their burger fix at Carl's Jr, Plaza Singapura, with their super duper size burger. These pictures were taken with my mobile phone. So please excuse the poor quality of the pictures. As usual the boys had their fun with the camera and had loads of monkey faces taken. I will spare you those.

After all that, I went a few floors up to Spotlight. A craft and interior store to purchase more threads. Yes, more cross stitch projects line up. I still have not completed the beaded shoes. The background of both shoes need to be filled in. It is kind of boring. So I have more or less abandon it until I am in the mood for it again.

Next to Carrefour's bakery section. They have some really nice breads, like the one below.

A Rustic Loaf . I bought a roast chicken , open a can of soup. There, our dinner for tonight. Easy and not much washing up to do.

Last stop, for my coffee fix.

The boys were glad for the change in routine. Although I had dragged them there because I wanted to visit the craft store. No complains from them though. It is not always they get to go out to the city during the school week. Come to think of it, me too. It has been some time since I pay a visit to the city. We usually hang around the malls in our neighbourhood.

So, that's it our visit to the city on a school day. The highlight for the week.

Pretty boring......

Well, with three boys on tow it is pretty hard to paint the town red any more.

Family Heirloom

While I was at my usual round of housework I came across this vase. It reminded me that I wanted to post it here but I forgotten about it. Well more like I procrastinated, as usual.

So, here it is, my Mother's favourite vase . A family heirloom.

This vase had been in our house for as long as I can remember. Polished lovingly by Mother and it had graced many parts in our house
How did I manage to get my hands on it since it is her favourite ?
All thanks to the metal stealer's in Ipoh.
My Mother's house had been broken in a couple of times. The thieves target were mainly cash, jewelry or any small expensive items. Luckily they did not manage to take any valuables or any cash. Mainly because my folks do not keep much cash or jewelery in the house. Second they broke in when the house was empty, which means they have been watching the house.
When they noticed that they can't find any more valuables in the house, they went to the garden help themselves to the metal covers and hangers. Because of that Mother is worried her favourite vase will be melted down if there is another break in to the house. She thinks it will be safer with me over here in Singapore.

The bottom of the vase.
There is a story behind this vase.
It originally belongs to my maternal Grandfather. It used to be a pair, place on the altar table. His pride and joy.
During the World War 2, when the Japanese was coming to Ipoh lots of folks ran away from the town. My grandfather took his family to hide in the mines in Menglembu. When everything had calmed down they went back to their house in Cowan Street. The whole house was ransacked. My Grandmother's jewelry, which was locked up in her wardrobe were all gone. Among the missing items were one of the bronze vase. They had a theory that the thief used the vase to carry all the jewelry away.
Many, many years later Mother saw a vase that look exactly like hers in a magazine. She can't help but think that might had been the missing pair.

So,here is a vase, nothing great about it but it holds so much memories. A heirloom passed on from my Grandfather, to my Mother and now to me.

Hmm.. you can see that it needs some polishing. That had been on my 'To Do List' for some time now. It had been pushed to the top because Mother is paying us a visit on the 24th of this month. And if she sees her favourite vase cover with dust and what else she will go .........

I think you can get the picture.

Indulgences

I have given in. You the know the saying " the flesh is willing but the will is weak ".

I ate a few slices of the cake I baked yesterday, pecan-sour-cream-cake.

On top of that I had ice cream. Not just any old ice cream - Ben & Jerry. A big, I mean real big scoop of Chocolate Fudge Brownie. With a good squirt of chocolate sauce. Sanwiched between 2 slices of bread, Malaysian style.

Yum, Yum !

That was yesterday.

Today I am moaning in horror on what I ate !

More Random Pictures

Today I woke up late. Stayed in bed a little longer even though the sun was shinning brightly through my window, right on to my bed. I pulled the blanket up and covered my face, turned away from the window. Snuggled under my blanket with H next to me. Nice........

Don't feel like in the mood to cook lunch. We went out for lunch at the mall. The boys took the opportunity to take more funny pictures.

Bee stung lips.

Mobile Phone Tag

OK, this tag, by angel, is long over due.

This is how it goes; list out these phones:
1. The phone(s) that you owned previously
2. The phone(s) that you're using now
3. The phone(s) that you're looking at to replace the current phone

Now, to tell you the truth I can't really remember my first mobile phone's model. I am those who uses the phone until it dies of natural causes. Plus I am not that savvy with new techno stuff. I usually buy one with simple function's and lately one with a camera. Plus I am a Nokia fan.

I went to the Nokia website, peered at all the phones, scratched my head, peered at them some more. And I think these are the phones I had.

3330 - My first, except that it was in blue. Used it until it conk out.

1100 - 2nd phone. I had this for less than 6 months. It got kidnapped by my Father. He likes it and in return he gave me his phone.

3120 - My Father's phone. It conked out on me soon after I took over owner ship of it.

6610 - My Mother gave me hers. Complicated story. You see, she got a new one from my brother. I was using this until I get a new one but I never got around it until this year.

6300 - The phone I am using now. This is also the same model that I lost recently. I bought back the same one because I like it's slim body. Now I intend to hold on to this one for a long, long time.

So the next phone I am looking at (but I will never buy) is :-

N95 - comes with a 5 mega pixel camera.

By the time I really buy my next phone there will be other better models in the market.

Oppss...I forgot to tag someone else.

Er..............never mind...........

Bohemian Violinist

We always associate classical music with somber dressing. The whole orchestra in their penguin suits, for the men and ladies in gowns.

Check out this clip.

The violinist is david-garrett performing Flight of the Bumble Bee.
'David Beckham' of the classical music. He usually performs in jeans and tshirts.
A new age violinist.

Don't you think he is cute ? Better looking then Joshua Bell, right ?

Musical Toilet Seats

In the papers recently it was reported there is this new invention. Musical toilet seats. I wanted to get the actual article but H had already sent it to the recycle bins. So, I tried Google and I found this joke.

Salesman: Good morning, sir, I'd like to show you the newest thing in modern electronic technology. I've developed the new musical toilet seat. Would you be interested in buying this modern day marvel?
Customer #1: What music does it play?
Salesman: Why, I have a complete library of songs, just tell me what you'd like.
Customer #1: Do you have one that plays Dixie?
Salesman: Absolutely! Here you go!(hands him a seat and gets paid.)
Salesman: I'll check back tomorrow to make sure you are happy with your purchase. Thank you!

Customer #2 who asks for 'Yellow Submarine'

Customer #3 who asks for 'Star Spangled Banner'

The next day...Salesman knocks on customer #1's door.

Salesman: How did you like the musical toilet seat?
Customer #1: It was great! It played Dixie and I sat there with a bucket of fried chicken enjoying each note.
Salesman: Wonderful! Nice doing business with you.

Salesman knocks on customer #2's door.

Salesman: How did you like the musical toilet seat?
Customer #2: Just fine. It played Yellow Submarine and I pretended I was bombing the submarine.
Salesman: Whatever! Nice doing business with you.

Salesman knocks on customer #3's door.

Salesman: How did you like the musical toilet seat?
Customer #3: Awful, just awful! I want you to take it back!
Salesman: What? You are my first unsatisfied customer ever! Why don't you like it?
Customer #3: Every time I sit down to go, it starts playing the Star Spangled Banner and I have to stand up and salute!

Now to get this new gadget try this site weewinkletinkle., japundit .

Coz, I Am Mom

Hi there. Have been inactive for a while. Why?

Now do I need to give a reason. I guess not, since this is my site and I can do anything I like with it !

OK, I am going to jump straight in and write what had been happening in my life the last week.

Lets see where did I left off, Hmmmm...Last post was after the mooncake festival. OK

Thursday - mooncake

Friday - mooncake

Saturday - mooncake

Sunday - mooncake

Monday - mooncake

Get my drift.....A bloody fattening week it had been. Just a few miserable cakes and it can last for such a long time.

Then this week :- It's #1 exam time !!!

  • Extra tuition - checked. (note this had been arranged by the school weeks before)

  • New stationery - checked (replaced missing mathematical instruments)

  • A good night rest - checked (unwillingly )

  • A good breakfast - checked

  • Brain food - checked

  • Special brews - er...I am not that kiasu

  • Pray - yes !

Now it is all up to him.

Other than that,...the usual happenings. Check this clip. It sums up my day perfectly !

"The Mom" song, sung to the William Tell Overture, by Anita Renfroe.
What a mom says in 24 hours, condensed into 2 minutes and 55 seconds! Hilarious and talented!
Lyrics for "The Mom Song" .

"The Mom Song"

Get up now
Get up now
Get up out of bed
Wash your face
Brush your teeth
Comb your sleepyhead
Here's your clothes and your shoes
Hear the words I said
Get up now! Get up and make your bed
Are you hot? Are you cold?
Are you wearing that?
Where's your books and your lunch and your homework at?
Grab your coat and gloves and your scarf and hat
Don't forget! You gotta feed the cat
Eat your breakfast, the experts tell us it's the most important meal of all
Take your vitamins so you will grow up one day to be big and tall
Please remember the orthodontist will be seeing you at 3 today
Don't forget your piano lesson is this afternoon so you must play
Don't shovel
Chew slowly
But hurry
The bus is here
Be careful
Come back here
Did you wash behind your ears?
Play outside, don't play rough, will you just play fair?
Be polite, make a friend, don't forget to share
Work it out, wait your turn, never take a dare
Get along! Don't make me come down there
Clean your room, fold your clothes, put your stuff away
Make your bed, do it now, do we have all day?
Were you born in a barn? Would you like some hay?
Can you even hear a word I say?
Answer the phone! Get off the phone!
Don't sit so close, turn it down, no texting at the table
No more computer time tonight!
Your iPod's my iPod if you don't listen up
Where are you going and with whom and what time do you think you're coming home?
Saying thank you, please, excuse me makes you welcome everywhere you roam
You'll appreciate my wisdom someday when you're older and you're grown
Can't wait till you have a couple little children of your own
You'll thank me for the counsel I gave you so willingly
But right now I thank you not to roll your eyes at me
Close your mouth when you chew, would appreciate
Take a bite maybe two of the stuff you hate
Use your fork, do not burp or I'll set you straight
Eat the food I put upon your plate
Get an A, get the door, don't get smart with me
Get a grip, get in here, I'll count to three
Get a job, get a life, get a PHD
Get a dose of,
"I don't care who started it!
You're grounded until you're 36"
Get your story straight and tell the truth for once, for heaven's sake
And if all your friends jumped off a cliff would you jump, too?
If I've said it once, I've said at least a thousand times before
That you're too old to act this way
It must be your father's DNA
Look at me when I am talking
Stand up straighter when you walk
A place for everything and everything must be in place
Stop crying or I'll give you something real to cry about
Oh!
Brush your teeth, wash your face, put your PJs on
Get in bed, get a help, say a prayer with mom
Don't forget, I love you
And tomorrow we will do this all again because a mom's work never ends
You don't need the reason why
Because, because, because, because
I said so, I said so, I said so, I said so
I'm the mom, the mom, the mom, the mom, the mom!!
Ta da!!!

Awesome isn't it ?

And that's it folks ! :)
